October 12 - The Brotherhood of Satan

I like to think that I've seen a lot of horror films, and I have, but I certainly haven't seen all there is. There were so many horror and monster films made back in the 80's that even if I devoted my life to seeing all of them, I'd probably fall short of watching them all. Unless maybe I cut looking at porn and masturbating out of my life, and honestly, I don't think there's anyone that dedicated to horror films to do that!

Tonight I picked a little known flick from oh, the 70's, I think it was, that I had found on crackle.com. The Brotherhood of Satan is about a family that gets sucked into a little town where bad things are happening. In the course of 3 days, 26 poeple have been slaughtered, and 12 children have vanished. The family has a young daughter, of the same age as the children who vanished. No trace of the children has been found. The sherriff is at his wit's end. The family decides that being in town is a bad idea, and decides to get out.

Driving along, the tire blows out. Turning around to make sure everyone is okay, they notice the daughter is missing. Gone. Vanished without a trace. Returning to town, the local priest expounds on his theory to the sherriff, the doctor, and the dad. There's a coven of witches hiding somewhere in town, and they've finally got the 13 children they wanted... but no one knows why. What follows is a heated search of the town, looking every place they can, before whatever is planned for the children goes down...

Satanic cults were huge back in the 70's and 80's, and featured in a whole bunch of horror movies. Come to think of it, they still pop up in horror movies all the time. There does turn out to be a cult in this movie, but honestly, the children are tons creepier than the cultists. There's a bit of a surprise ending going on, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.

This movie seemed to flow pretty well, and while the acting was good, there weren't exactly any stars shining brightly in this. The guy playing the head cultist really got into his part, and there were some decent special effects... for the 70's. lol

I would say, if you are a fan of horror films, this one is worth watching once. If you don't like horror films, well, yea, you probably aren't going to enjoy this one all that much, unless of course, you enjoy cheesy 70's atmosphere. I enjoy both, so I liked it. :-)

Happy Halloween!

And OHMRAT 2023 ends just as it began.  With a quiet whimper.  Sadly, I had no time this month.  Too busy trying to stay alive.  But, I did ...
