#27 - Devil's Playground

MOVIE: Devil's Playground (2010).  Now showing on TMC.

PLOT:  A new performance enhancing drug causes a zombie apocalypse.  A mercenary working for the company that created the drug finds out there's a person immune to the drug, and therefore may have a cure for the zombie plague.  Unfortunately, he has no idea where she is.  Tracking her down amid a horde of ravenous zombies could prove a bit difficult!

OVERALL ENJOYMENT:  Pretty good!  Better than average zombie movie.

GOOD POINTS:  Made in england, where they pay attention to acting instead of special effects and how pretty the actors are.  Which doesn't mean low budget.  This looks like it was a major production.  Plenty of gore, fast-moving zombies, lots of action.  Recognizable english veteran actors.

BAD POINTS:  So many characters going through different plots created a bit of confusion at first.  They all tie together in the end.

SPOILERS:  What's up with all the zombies knowing Parkour as soon as they turn?  lol  These baddies are leaping off walls, ceilings and stationary objects to get at their prey.  I understand the drug supposedly gives them greater strength and endurance, but how does leaping off a wall compute into food for the zombie brain?  Doesn't make sense.  Also...  Why are they scared of water?  Never explained.

IMPRESSION:  Good zombie flick.  Bunch of major english actors.  I recognized many of the faces, even if I didn't really know their names.  Plenty of action, romance, drama, regret, guilty consciences and generally human foibles to be found.  So a pretty realistic look at the end of the world.  lol

OTHER NEWS:  Lots of movie titles with "Devil" in them this month!  Also, there's a Frankenstorm headed our way, combo of Hurricane Sandy and a Nor'easter headed our way.  Typically, we don't get much snow from the nor'easters here and we are several hundred miles inland from the coast, so I doubt we'll get much more than some clouds and rain.  A thunderstorm would be nice.  But we're stocked up on food and water anyway.  Also, Hurricane Sandy is supposed to be here around Halloween, so (1) little chance of seeing that full moon on Halloween and (2) less trick or Treaters means more candy for me!  Wheeeeee!  :-D

See you guys tomorrow night.

Happy Halloween!

And OHMRAT 2023 ends just as it began.  With a quiet whimper.  Sadly, I had no time this month.  Too busy trying to stay alive.  But, I did ...
