So Betty White is 90 years old! I was shocked. It seems like only yesterday she made a man out of me in the back of my van. Hmmm. Maybe it was yesterday.
The only thing I want to know is... Who the HELL puts Betty white's 90th birthday celebration opposite the series premiere of Alcatraz? :-o I had to switch back and forth like a madman, trying to catch both of them, and I haven't had to do that since the 70's! :-( If you weren't around for the 70's, that was before they invented the VCR. And if you don't know what a VCR is, look it up on that there Wiki-pedia thing and GET OFF MY LAWN!
On the minus side, I noticed while Mary Tyler Moore was praising how great Betty White was, she looked terrified. And she was staring straight off into space while feeling around for the mic stand. Turns out she wasn't just reading a teleprompter, it's that, she's got type 1 diabetes and she's almost if not completely blind. I'm guessing someone was telling her what to say via an earpiece or something, which is why she didn't sound very animated while speaking. Sad. :-(
Speaking of TV, there's this commercial, I think it's for a snickers candy bar? Cracks me up every time I see it. It's one of those stupid "you're not yourself when you're hungry." commercials. You know the ones. This one has a lumberjack who's, shall we say, not in the mood to use his chainsaw, played by... honestly, the comedian has been out of circulation for so long I forgot his name. One of those jewish guys that complains about his life constantly? He was funny enough, though, back in the 80's, I think. Anyway, so he has a snickers and suddenly he's not the comedian anymore, he's back to being a nameless faceless lumberjack. So just when you think that's the end of the commercials, it cuts to Roseanne Barr, complaining about her back hurting. Obviously another lumberjack in need of a snickers, but as soon as she gets out "My back hurts." a freshly cut log hanging from wires SLAMS into her and knocks her to the ground and just before the commercial ends you hear "Now my front hurts!' Awesome. Too awesome. I crack up every time I see it.
So how do the new mid-season premiere's stack up? Well, so far I'm liking Alcatraz. It's got Sam Neill in it, and he's always been a good actor. Plus the cop in it is about 5 foot tall and a total hottie. A fact that is never lost on me. The premise goes something like, in something something of 1963, all of alcatraz's hundreds of prisoners, and a bunch of guards, were transferred out of the facility and it was closed. But what really happened was, they all VANISHED. Much like roanoke island back in the colonial period, I expect. Anyway, all of a sudden, 50 years later, they find out a couple of them have come back. Unchanged from the time they disappeared, it seems that they have no memory of what happened, or why they seem to be committing certain crimes. I'm sure that sounds all very mysterious to you. To me, it sounds like that time I drank too much and those pictures ended up going viral. I deny all memory of that incident and suggest you contact my lawyer if you have a complaint.
Lost Girl is on syfy. I know, I know, you're thinking Syfy? That second rate channel that used to be cool but now shows wrestling in prime time? Yes. Yes. That one. Lost girl isn't bad, good premise, and certainly original for a change. We could use more original shows. The premise is that a lost "fae" or member of an ancient, supposedly pre-human offshoot of.. well... humans... gets caught up in the middle of a war between the dark fae and the light fae. So all these fae are supposedly pre-human, and yet, they all look human, sooooooo... either they all decided to look human to fit in, or they are an off-shoot of humans, which... means they can't really pre-date humans... I'm all confused already.
Hope everyone is having a Happy New Year so far. And I think I'm playing Skyrim too much. I was in the shower and the water splashing off my back was hitting the shower curtain... the two sounds combined to make a roaring noise that sounded JUST like a dragon roar from Skyrim. I stuck my head out from under the downpour and I was like DRAGON? :-o My hands were up in the air like I had spells ready in a HEARTBEAT. I sometimes think if I was ever a wizard, I'd be a badass one. lol What do you think? Too geeky? :-\
Oh and... the new season of Being Human premiered on syfy too. The werewolf's girlfriend is a cutie. I will be fantasizing over her for at least the next hour. :-D
