Horror movie #5 - Forget Me Not

Another movie I have never seen before!  I wasn't really fond of this one at all.  But let's try a different format for my movie reviews and see how it works out...

MOVIE:  Forget Me Not.

PLOT:  A bunch of friends play a ghostly version of hide and seek in the graveyard and awaken the ghost of a girl they "mistreated" years ago.  The friends begin to die off and disappear and as they disappear, the other friends forget them.  Soon only one is left.  The only one who remembers the ghost...

BAD POINTS:  Bunch of teen unknowns.  All model-esque, all bad actors.  Horrible FX.  Not even CGI.  I'm talking duct tape costumes.  Not really sure how anyone could pass this off as a major movie. Reminds me of that movie with Julianne Moore, where when the aliens take people, everyone else forgets them.  Only this time, it's with a ghost instead of aliens.  I'm pretty sure the title is a plea not to forget this truly forgettable movie.

GOOD POINTS:  ...  I haven't seen it before?  I can't think of anything else.  Maybe I'll come back to this paragraph later.  I sure can't think of any good points right now.  Can't even remember if there was nudity.

SPOILERS:  Okay, so let me see if I get this straight.  A girl agrees to scare the shit out of her asthmatic friend with health issues, and the friend has a seizure and goes into a coma.  And...  a mere 6 years later, not only does the girl's best friend not remember this, but none of the other kids do.  And not only have they gone on playing the game that caused the girl's coma, but they don't recall it ever causing trouble...  a mere 6 years ago.  You know, it doesn't really surprise me that these people forget each other the minute they die off because they are ALL BRAIN DEAD.  Also, whatever happened to just playing hide and seek?  What is this stupid rhyme that they keep mumbling through as fast as they can because it doesn't rhyme and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever?  And isn't the person that's seeking the others usually like, hide their eyes or something while the others pick hiding places?  Otherwise, why would they be hard to find?  Also, the girl's in a coma... she's not even a ghost.  And seriously... duct tape costumes?  Really?  Also, is the deaths of like 8 people really necessary to make you feel better about a 6 year coma?  When you didn't even die?  Just seems a tad silly.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:  I don't like ghost stories, don't like stupid movies, don't like bad costumes, don't like bad acting.  Definitely won't watch this again, and all the actors / actresses are totally forgettable.  So.  On to the next one.

OTHER NEWS:  Fall series!  I realize I forgot to mention one that seems pretty important, but i disregarded it right off the bat.  Revolution.  The one about what happens after all the power goes off.  See, here's the problem, physics doesn't work that way.  Even if it was a solar flare (which could have that effect at least temporarily), not only would any sufficiently shielded wiring avoid the effect, but any electrical device that was off should be unaffected, much like what happens during an EMP blast.  Now, before you get all "suspension of disbelief, man!  Just go with it!"  See, I would've.  I would have been fine with all the power being gone, and gunpowder not working, and physics all messed up, but the gunpowder still works, and apparently, electricity and computers still work because that was revealed in the first episode.  So, why couldn't mankind have just fixed it so the lines were shielded?  Nobody ever thinks about the physics.  So, the show seemed too stupid to me to watch.  Also, all the good guys use bows and arrows and swords and all the bad guys use guns.  Wtf?  Any idiot knows you don't bring a knife to a gun fight because you DIE.  lol

GRIMM:  Yes!  Grimm is on!  I love Grimm.  Favorite series of last season and this one.  It's like a spiritual successor to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Think about it...  Monsters exist.  There's one human who has special powers to fight the monsters.  There's a bunch of people with varying abilities who help them out.  It's like the "Scooby gang" all over again.

Brief summary of the Grimm series so far...  Cop named Nick starts seeing people's faces, when they get upset, turn into various types of monsters.  Trolls, werewolves, snakes, all kinds of animal-human hybrid beasties from myth and legend.  Turns out he's a "Grimm," a person who can see these creatures even when they don't want to be seen by normal humans.  Whenever they get upset (such as being questioned by a police officer), their inner selves sneak out in such a way that the Grimm can see that they aren't really human, but normal people miss it.  So his Aunt comes to town, explains what he is to some extent (turns out she's a Grimm too) but then dies before she can really explain everything.  All of last season was pretty much figuring out all the weapons and books that his Aunt left him so he could understand that Grimms are basically monster hunters.

Of course, there are some sub plots going on.  We find out partly at the end of last season and partly during this season that the Grimms used to work for the Royals, which are basically monster nobility, keeping the other monsters in line.  Turns out Nick's police captain is a Royal, the only one in the US that the series has mentioned so far, and that various factions within the royals are trying to eliminate Nick or his friends.  But Nick doesn't know about his captain, who's risking his life to make sure that Nick stays alive and healthy and happy.  Do we know why exactly?  Not quite yet.

Okay that's it for now.  Back tomorrow night for more horror movie goodness.  I may review good movies I have seen before on weekends (maybe even a double feature) and review movies I haven't seen before on the weekdays this month.  We'll see what I feel like watching tomorrow night!  :-)

Happy Halloween!

And OHMRAT 2023 ends just as it began.  With a quiet whimper.  Sadly, I had no time this month.  Too busy trying to stay alive.  But, I did ...
